Carousel "Age of Awareness"
CUM-HOR
Sculpture by Frank E. Cummings III
Carousel "Age of Awareness" is an expression of the artist "carosello" (a 17th century Italian word meaning "little war") of personal frustrations and struggles with identity, desire, passion, achievement and recognition.
Dimensions: 16.5" tall by 12" diameter. Walnut lace vessel surrounded by 170 Onyx stones, flanked by 18K gold. Between each carved ebony figure is a 9.5 mm pearl with two 5 mm Rubellites in 18K gold.
The elegant vessels of Frank Cummings are vastly different from the work of any other artist working in the field of turned wood. Combining exotic woods or exceptional examples of domestic woods with gem stones and gold, he creates work which transcends utilitarian function and attempts a contribution to the spiritual and emotional well being of the human condition.
