"Embrace"
CUM-EMB
Sculpture by Frank E. Cummings III
In the Jeweled Fantasy Collection of vessels that express the value and quality of relationships, this vessel titled "Embrace" is significant in that it uses the natural edge of the wood to encompass the idea of inclusion in the way the dark heartwood of the African Black Wood includes and embraces the fight color sapwood and bark of the tree.
"Embrace" is created from a single piece of African Black Wood 9 3/4 inches tall and 4 1 / 2 inches in diameter. The inlay is created in "tagua" nut and 18K gold. Tagua nut is a seed from the palm which grows in South Africa. Is has been used for jewelry and buttons since the time of Queen Victoria.
