Possibly one of the finest of JoHannes Michelsen's turned wood hat series. This extraordinary piece was turned from an exceptionally complex Madrone burl and turned to less than a 1/4" in thickness. The completed hat weighs less than 1/2 pound and has shrunk by a full 1/3 in the process of curing. Madrone is both prized and despised for its extreme shrinkage properties which makes such heavily gnarled objects such as this possible.
